According to the LOOF criteria, the British Shorthair is a robust and muscular cat with a balanced figure.  Its head is broad and round, with a full, chubby face, a short, broad nose, and a strong chin.  The eyes are large, round and spaced, often copper or gold in colour.  The ears are medium to small in size, wide at the base and slightly rounded at the top.  The body is massive with a broad chest and short, thick legs. The tail is of medium length, thick at the base and tapering to a rounded tip.  The fur is short, dense and fluffy, available in various colors and patterns including blue (the most popular), black, white, cream, red, lilac, as well as various two-tone and tri-color combinations.  The British Shorthair is known for its calm and affectionate temperament, ideal for indoor living and sociable with other animals.

Alimentation

There is a dry diet (kibble and sticks) and a wet diet (pâtés, sauces, and raw meat).

We use a complement of both for both adult cats and kittens.

Ramses and Tiara have self-service kibble available for self-service "Adult British Shorthair Royal Canin" and "Mother and Baby Cat Royal Canin".  They also receive a small snack morning and evening consisting of small sticks of "Churu" sauce.

After Tiara stopped breastfeeding her kittens, we also offered them unlimited dry kibble "Mother and Baby Cat Royal Canin" as well as supplements to help them in the weaning phase with a mix of raw meat "Nova Felis", kitten milk formula "Babycat Milk Royal Canin", sauce stick "Churu" as well as dry kibble to encourage them to chew and develop their diet.

Litter and cleaning

We have two litter boxes available for our cats, but the kittens only seem to want to use the adult litter box.  We use the "white Hygiene ultra compact self-compacting Sivocat" litter and clean it at least twice a day: morning and evening.

Cats are very clean animals, but British Shorthairs seem to be particularly meticulous when it comes to hygiene.  We cut the claws of our cats, although they do not scratch furniture or fight, in order to guarantee their well-being.  Because of their undercoat and the change of seasons, this breed sometimes loses its coat, which is why we brush our cats with a glove specially designed not to irritate their skin and thus preserve their comfort and ensure their hygiene.
